CLTP Certificate Requirements

To obtain a certificate from the Public Library Services Branch acknowledging completion of the Community Library Training Program, individuals must complete a total of FOUR courses: Two required courses; one of 3 technical options; and one additional elective.

An additional special Certificate in Children's and Young Adult Services is offered to anyone who completes the appropiate combination of three required courses as well as both CLTP 104 and CLTP 204.

TWO required courses:

  • CLTP 101: Supervisory Skills (formerly:Public Library Administration)

  • CLTP 102: Introduction to Reference and Information Services

ONE of three technical services options:

  • CLTP 103: Collection Development and Acquisitions
         OR
  • CLTP 203: Cataloguing and Classification
         OR
  • CLTP 106: Introduction to the Internet

ONE additional elective course from:

  • CLTP 103: Collection Development & Acquisitions (if not taken as a requirement above)

  • CLTP 104: Library Services for Children

  • CLTP 105: Adult Services

  • CLTP 106: Introduction to the Internet (if not taken as a requirement above)

  • CLTP 202: Legal Information Sources

  • CLTP 203: Cataloguing & Classification (if not taken as a requirement avove)

  • CLTP 204: Library Services for Young Adults

  • CLTP 302: Aboriginal Reference Sources
