I read "His Banner Over Me" by Jean Little. This book is about Flora Gauld who comes to Canada from Taiwan with her family to visit relatives. After 5 years the parents decide to go back home and leave Flora and her 2 sisters and brother to attend school while staying with their aunt, uncle and cousins. Andrew, AGE: 13 suggests:

Author: Steve Perry, title n/a. Comments: This book was of the science-fiction genre and it had lots of action. The suspense fueled your imagination of what would happen next. It captivated you and kept you reading until you found out the answers to all of your questions. I thought this book was very good but it was very lengthy. It was about 1 1/4" thick and the type was about 12-point. I would recommend this book to sci-fi readers and ones who have a lot of time on their hands. This book would probably be for the older readers. It also provides a challenge for the first time-big book reader. Recommendations: The X-Wing series by Michael A. Stackpole. The Tales From.... series by Kevin J. Anderson and other writers. The Young Jedi Knights series by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta.
